The mandate of the IT-CO-FE section is to provide support in the area of front-end controls. The aim of the section is to help people in selecting and using the appropriate control technologies. Industry-based solutions are proposed whenever it is possible. The section has developed custom solutions for the other problems.

The section offers services related to the front-end technologies. Experiments are provided with a first-line support for the fieldbuses and PLCs. CERN wide supports are available for the CAN fieldbus, the OPC middleware and the NI software.

The section provides single-person contact to experiments and projects for interaction with IT-CO.

The section is in addition involved in projects such as the control for the LHC experiments gas systems (LHC GCS), the Detector Security and Safety systems and the JCOP framework.
